Dear Rotarian's and friends,
We are excited to invite you to our very special summer soiree on July 14th, starting with a private curator tour at the Guggenheim Museum at 6.30pm,followed by drinks at the Boathouse in Central park to toast to the new Rotary year.
Our Private tour and discussion group will be led by Joan Young, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art and will focus on the Deutsche Bank Series at the Guggenheim, Julie Mehretu: Grey Area. The paintings in this exhibition were produced for the 15th commission of Deutsche Bank and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. Inspired in part by Berlin, the city in which Mehretu created the works, the paintings evoke the psycho geography of a place and the effects of the built environment on individuals, while at the same time contemplating the past and the surviving traces of lived history.
Since we are privileged to have this tour after hours we will meet at the side entrance of the Guggenheim on 89th street between 5th/Park Ave ( staff entrance).
Please arrive no later than 6.15pm since the tour will start at 6.30 pm sharp. Duration of the tour will be approximately an hour.
RSVP is mandatory for this tour and space is limited.
Please note this event will be in lieu of our regular dinner meeting at Trattoria D'opo.
