As some of you are aware the Rotary Metro Club has supported the Harlem based middle school, Manhattan East School for Arts and Academics’ arts program for 6 years now. Supporting the school is engrained in the culture of our club; so much so, that we have created a ritual called “happy and sad dollars” that we go through prior to all our meetings. Participants at the meeting are requested to share their happy or sad story for the day and in turn contribute a happy or sad dollar (or more if they so desire). Collections from this “ritual” are dedicated to the arts and craft program of the Manhattan East School for Arts and Academics. Our Clubs first "happy and sad dollars" were collected early 2004 and the first donation to the school was made in 2005.
We are happy to have the opportunity to hear first hand from Mrs. Lily Sarro, Principal of the Manhattan East School for Arts and Academics for the last 10 years and Art teacher Mr. David Macaluso. They will share their thoughts about the school, it’s mission, programs, goals and achievements.
Additionally, we are looking forward to welcoming the incoming 2010 GSE (Rotary Group study exchange) Team from Tasmania (District 9830)at our meeting. Our Club is proud to be hosting two members of this GSE team.
The dinner meeting starts at 7.30pm at :
