INFORMATION:
Parishioners of St. Francis Xavier Church took the initiative to start St. Francis Xavier Mission’s Welcome Table soup kitchen in 1982. This evolved as a response to the needs of the homeless population in our Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea at that time. Every Sunday, a day when most other soup kitchens in NYC are closed, approximately 700 meals are served to people in need.
There are two shifts of volunteers. We will be helping in the second one from 11.45am - 3.30pm. The task will include : Putting hot meal items on plates and trays, working at teh food stations giving out extras( coffe/ bread, water etc), washing & rinsing trays, general clean up after the distribution.
Our Rotary Metro team is signed on a monthly basis for a group of 5 volunteers under Rotary Metro and Nadines’( Homann) name.
LOCATION : 55 West 15th street, just east of 6th Ave( betw. 6th and 5th)on the north side of the street.( This is the entrance to teh Church of St. Francis Xavier offices). There is a red awning thats says " Church of St. Francis", ring the buzzer and the receptionist will buzz you in. Just inside the door to the right is a 1/2 flight of stairs down to Hurtado Hall. The meal is beeing served there.
Please sign up at our meeting for the different events and feel free to bring friends ( please remember to RSVP for everyone attending)
